Interesting to see Epson getting into the AR market
With AR devices coming down in price and looking more stylish, it’s not going to be long before we see AR hitting the mainstream. Industry specialists down at the VR World exhibition that I went to a couple of weeks ago are convinced that AR will become mainstream way before VR.
They are saying that in some respects it already has, with the popularity of Snapchat and the Augmenting features it offers.
Even Mark Zuckerberg, who, through Facebook, owns a major VR player Oculus Rift, is saying that VR isn’t going to become mainstream for 10 years.
That’s not to say that there aren’t applications for VR. There are masses, although mostly commercial with a lot of uses in automotive and construction. What is interesting though is that VR seems to be leading the way in advertising with in experience ads running regularly now. I’m pleased so say in a subtle and tasteful manner, similar to product placement in movies.
So, which is coming to the mainstream first, AR or VR?
